About us
BiR&D stands for «Belgian industrial Research and Development».
It is the name for the association of international industrial companies with major operations and R&D activity in Belgium.
The mission of BiR&D is to stimulate the attractiveness and the effectiveness of industrial R&D in Belgium leveraging collaborative innovation against a background of international R&D competition. Specific actions are deployed to strengthen the various components of this mission.
Associated partners are the employer organisations Agoria (The Federation for the Technology Industry) and essenscia (Belgian Federation for the Chemistry and Life Sciences Industries) as well as the R&D network GRD (Groupe permanent de Recherche et Dévelopment de Louvain).
In a spirit of collaborative innovation, against a background of international R&D competition, the mission of BiR&D includes:
- facilitation of cooperation with universities and research centers
- benchmarking of best practices for industrial R&D
- improvement of the image of industrial R&D
- facilitation of the recruitment of R&D talent
The board of BiR&D is composed of the R&D or innovation managers of the member companies. They decide on the actions to be deployed, such as the sponsoring of Interdisciplinary Master of Science theses for Belgian Universities.
